UPVC stands for unplasticized polyvinyl chloride, a type of plastic material that is commonly used for window frames and doors. UPVC doors are known for their strength, durability, and resistance to weather and UV rays, making them an ideal choice for homes. They are also low maintenance, meaning that you won't have to worry about sanding, painting, or staining them to keep them looking new.

The Benefits of Used UPVC Doors

Cost-Effective Solution
One of the biggest benefits of used UPVC doors is that they are much more affordable than brand new doors. This makes them an excellent option for homeowners who are on a tight budget but still want to update their doors. Used UPVC doors are available at a fraction of the cost of brand new doors, making them an excellent investment for your home.
Durable and Long Lasting
UPVC doors are known for their durability and long-lasting performance. They are resistant to weather, UV rays, and other environmental factors, which means that they will last for many years with proper care. This makes used UPVC doors an excellent choice for homes that are exposed to harsh weather conditions.
Low Maintenance
UPVC doors are low maintenance, meaning that you won't have to worry about sanding, painting, or staining them to keep them looking new. All you need to do is wipe them down with a damp cloth to keep them clean. This makes used UPVC doors an ideal choice for busy homeowners who don't have time to spend on regular door maintenance.
Energy Efficient
UPVC doors are also energy-efficient, which means that they will help to keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. This will save you money on your energy bills and help to keep your home more comfortable all year round. Most modern originals come with double glazing glass or thicker, so you can let sunlight in without compromising on heat.

Maintenance and Care for Used UPVC Front Doors

UPVC front doors require minimal maintenance to keep them looking and functioning their best. Here are some tips for caring for your UPVC front door:
Clean Regularly
Use a soft, damp cloth to clean your UPVC door and remove any dirt or dust. Avoid using abrasive or harsh cleaning products as they can damage the surface of the door.
Protect From Direct Sunlight
Direct sunlight can cause UPVC to fade and become brittle over time. Consider installing a porch or awning to protect your door from direct sunlight.
Lubricate Hinges
Regularly lubricating the hinges will ensure smooth operation and reduce the risk of the door becoming stiff or difficult to open and close.
Check Seals
The seals around your UPVC door can become worn over time, allowing water and air to enter. Check the seals regularly and replace them if necessary to ensure your door remains weathertight.
Regular Inspections
Regular inspections can help to identify any potential issues with your UPVC door before they become more serious. Check for signs of damage, such as cracks or warping, and address them promptly to keep your door in top condition.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The cost can vary depending on a number of factors, including the size, style and design, plus the level of security features included. Second hand items from UUWD start at around £100. On average, a new standard UPVC front door can cost anywhere from £250 to £1000, depending on the specification.
Much like the cost of a door, the cost to fit it can vary a lot depending on the specification, the quality and experience of the fitter and your location. Many companies offer fitting as part of the total cost, so it's best to check this and explore your options. UUWD works with a handful of recommended fitters if you also required this service. However, please note that they are partners and not a direct service provided by UUWD.
A UPVC door will last for up to 20-30 if it is maintained well over the course of its life, but this will depend on the quality of the door, the level of maintenance and the external conditions it is subjected to. Second hand doors supplied by UUWD are unlikely to last quite as long due to them having past owners, but come with a 10 year guarantee and are quality checked before sale.
There are a handful of standard sizes for UK doors, such as 840mm x 2085mm, 920mm x 2085mm and 1000mm x 2085mm, but most doors can be made to measure. Doors that are close to the desired size you need can often be made to fit perfectly with certain fitting techniques, too.
Generally, yes they are cheaper than wooden doors. Wood is naturally a more expensive material and will need more regular treatment to avoid rotting as it is exposed to weather conditions, thus having an increased ongoing cost.
We do not recommend cutting them to size to avoid compromising the structural integrity and security. If cutting the door is possible, always consult an expert fitter and have them conduct the work for you.
Yes, UPVC Front Doors are considered to be very secure compared to other such as wood and aluminium. A multi-point locking system is a common feature of UPVC front doors. This type of system ensures that the door is secured at multiple points along its length when locked, providing a significantly higher level of security compared to doors that have only a single-point lock, which is often found in other door types. They are also made of a tough and durable material, and often reinforced with metal, which makes it difficult for intruders to break or force open. Futher to this, uPVC doors can be fitted with anti-snap cylinders, which are designed to resist forced entry attempts. This can provide an additional layer of security against lock picking, bumping, or drilling. uPVC doors can be fitted with toughened or laminated glass, which provides an additional layer of security and prevents the glass from shattering easily.
It is possible to repair cracks with a special filler that is designed to bond with the uPVC material. This filler dries to a hard finish and can be sanded and painted to match the color of the door. However, whether a crack is repairable or not will depend on its severity. Doors that cannot be repaired can be easily replaced with one of our affordable Front Doors.
